KARACHI: Grace Shelton, the Consul General of US, has handed over six armored personnel vehicles (APVs) worth Rs.150m to the Baluchistan police officials here at an event today.
Speaking on the occasion Consul General said: “The recent targeted killings of Baluchistan police officers shows just how dangerous policing can be in Baluchistan and how we cannot rest in determining ways to keep law enforcement officers safe.
“The United States Government hopes these vehicles and the other protective equipment can help protect these brave officers while they continue to fight crime and terrorism.”
The vehicles were built by the American company Lenco and were designed specifically for the rough terrain of Baluchistan and easy maintenance locally.
In addition to the APVs, the United States recently donated 4,000 bullet resistant vests, mine and explosives detectors, bomb suits, and bomb blankets. The total donation was in excess of US$7m.
PS: The United States Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs works in more than 90 countries to help countries combat crime and corruption, counter drug-related offences, improve police institutions, and promote laws and court systems that are fair and accountable.

According to details those who gave up their weapons included seventeen commanders who declared that now on they would be working for peace and prosperity of Pakistan.
Every fararee was given a white envelope (harboring some money?), rose and a Pakistani flag.
It is pertinent to mention here that those who surrendered were involved in subversive activities in the Province for a decade.
ISPR claims arrest of terrorists recovery of arms and ammunition from Baluchistan!
QUETTA: LEA’s operating on the intelligence provided by agencies carried out a number of raids in various parts of Baluchistan.
As a result of these operations eleven terrorists of proscribed BRA were arrested from Sanni Shoran, South of Sibbi.
A Cache of arms and ammunition has also been from Ilyasi Nullah (Dera Bugti) and Dukki.
Sources have further informed that four IEDs were recovered and diffused in Qila Saifullah.
Baluchistan Levies seizes a cache of arms and ammunition in Kohlu
KOHLU: Baluchistan Levies has seized some 181 RPG-7 rockets, 172 fuses, MMRR 75 gun and 80 rounds during an operation on a militant hideout near Tehsil Kahan’s Soraf Nala area here today morning.
Levies, that was acting upon intelligence provided by security agencies, told that a motorcycle loaded with explosives was also recovered.
