Super-star of rock Johnny Hallyday dies from lung cancer at 74!

PARIS: Johnny Hallyday, the biggest rock star ever to live in the Hexagon, died today from cancer at the age of 74. 

Commenting on his death, President of France Emmanuel Macron has said that Johnny Hallyday had across generations carved himself into the lives of French people.  

President Jacques Chirac bestowed knighthood (Chevalier of the Legion D’Honneur) upon him in 1977 him He was made a by President Jacques Chirac in 1997.

“He charmed them through the generosity you saw in his concerts: so epic, so intimate, in huge venues, in small spots”, President Macron held. “Nous n’oublierons ni le nom, ni la gueule, ni la voix, ni surtout les interpretations”.

Hallyday, who was born Jean-Philippe Smet, sold about 100 million records and starred in a number of films. Sadly he simply does not exist beyond the francophonie world.
