KARACHI: Consul General of Russian Federation Dr. Aleksandr G. Khozin and Mrs. Valentina G. Kuznetsova welcomed crème de la crème of the Metropolis at a reception hosted at the Consulate General here to observe the Diplomats Day.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Aleksandr G. Khozin spoke about the first landmark bilateral act of the 9th century – the agreement on peace and love of 1860 within Byzantine Empire – as a result of which Russia was first internationally acknowledged.
“In the year of 1720 Peter the Great recognized Ambassadors Department and in 1802 a full-fledged Ministry of Foreign Affairs was formed under Emperor Alexander the 1st”.
He told that the Russian Foreign Service groomed talented diplomats who laid down the main principles and techniques of Russian diplomacy which later continued to develop and improve.
The Russian diplomat went on to state: “On this day we recall our colleagues who fell on the battlefield in the Great Patriotic WW-II who died in their line of duty like as you may well remember Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov who was outrageously assassinated during his speech at the Center of Modern Art in Ankara in December 2016.
“We salute the prominent Russian diplomats and our veterans who have worked until now to lay the basis of successful modern policy.
“We also pay tribute to the active diplomats who have proved, by their work and high professionalism, that diplomacy is one of the most important tools for safeguarding national interests”.
