Pakistan tops the list of most dangerous states for newborns, claims UNICEF!

GENEVA: As per the latest report released by UNICEF, Pakistan is declared as the most dangerous country for newborns. According to the statistics, out of 1,000 babies born here, around 46 bite the dust following delivery.

  • What are some potential reasons behind newborns death?

Talking about this crucial concern, known obstetrician in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, Dr. Ghazna Khalid maintained that the major reason behind newborns death is the practice of hiring unqualified midwives.

Naive and illiterate people tend to take help from unprofessional midwives, resulting into innumerable fatalities.

As a matter of fact, approx 80 percent of newborn mortalities here could be thwarted if parents take assistance of skilled birth attendants.

Khalid also held corruption, funding scarcity and inappropriate priorities of government accountable for triggering such fatalities.

On the contrary, children born in Japan, Iceland, and Singapore have been reported with higher odds of survival as compared to the kids in Central African Republic, Afghanistan and unfortunately Pakistan.

UNICEF claims that lives of some three millions babies can be rescued per annum by means of a proper investment in excellence care at the time of delivery.

It is pertinent to mention here that apart from hiring trained midwives, clean water, disinfectants, breastfeeding within the foremost hour of delivery, skin-to-skin exposure amid mum and little one and good nutrition are also required to boost babies chances of survival.
