KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar pointed out the pedestrian bridge has been constructed at the Shafiq Morr only in 20 days to save the people from difficulty in crossing the road.
He expressed these views while talking to media representatives after inaugurating the newly built pedestrian bridge at Shafiq Morr, near Masjid-e-Aqsa today.
He was accompanied by Vice Chairman DMC Central Shakir Ali, Chairman Land Committee Syed Arshad Hassan, Chairman Works CommitteeHassan Naqvi, Chairman Finance Committee Nadeem Hidayat Hashmi, other elected representatives and KMC officers.

Speaking to media outside Sindh Assembly Akhtar underlined that the masses were ‘in difficulties’ owing to persisting civic issues. He said actions had already been planned, now it’s time for targeted development.
The mayor also appealed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to provide sufficient budget for Karachi’s development.
Earlier, Akhtar said that peace of the city was disturbed many times in past as there was nobody to direct authorities to maintain peace in the Metropolis.
Speaking to media outside an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), the mayor complained and alleged he did not get adequate security which he deserved on his position.
“I am Mayor of the city and a free person now, I should be provided with security,” Akhtar said while talking to the media outside Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) building.
“This was my first day at the office, I was in the court before coming here. I always follow the law and obey the court orders,” the mayor added.
Akhtar further said that he would take into confidence all parties on the issue of Karachi’s peace as it was his top priority after taking charge of his office.
Karachi: IGP takes notice of schoolboy death
KARACHI: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, Dr. Syed Kaleem Imam on Wednesday taking notice of the death of a schoolboy after falling off from the roof of a school in Samanabad area, has sought a detailed report from the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Central.
The IGP has asked the SSP to submit the report about the incident and measures taken in this regard, said a statement issued here.
Sharea Faisal to be made model traffic corridor: Mayor
KARACHI: Mayor of Karachi Wasim Akhtar Wednesday said that measures had been taken for the improvement in traffic system of the city and Sharea Faisal would be made a model traffic corridor in coordination with the traffic police.
“We want to save our citizens particularly the youth from dangerous accidents on roads, he said this while presiding over a meeting at his office, said a statement.
The meeting was attended by Additional I.G Karachi Dr. Ameer Ahmed Shaikh, DIG Traffic Ahmed Ishaq, Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Saif ur Rehman, DSP Security Karachi Traffic Saeed Arain, D.G
Technical Services and others.
The meeting was informed that a separate lane was being allocated for motorcyclists alongside Sharea Faisal for which practical steps would be taken after conducting a survey in a week’s time.
The traffic police were also initiating its campaign against violation of helmet rules by the motorcyclist in the city. He said that driving license checking would also be carried out after a month and action would be taken against violators.
The survey of the Sharea Faisal would be carried out by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Traffic Police Department and Traffic Engineering Bureau.
Governor appoints new chancellors to Jinnah and Hamdard
KARACHI: Sindh Governor Imran Ismail on Wednesday appointed new chancellors to Hamdard University and Jinnah University for Women.
He appointed Sadia Rashid the Chancellor of the Hamdard University while Akram Khatoon the Chancellor of the Jinnah University for Women said a statement issued here.
