Fiazabad sit-in: Government cows down, signs agreement with Tehreek, law minister calls it a day!

ISLAMABAD: When COAS refused to pitch troops against the protesters (staging a sit-in at Faizabad Interchange for over two weeks) – particularly when court had barred use of firearms – the government had to cow-down.

Accepting the principal demand of the agitators, Law Minister has resigned and the resignation would be accepted today.

The salient features of the agreement signed between Tehreek-e-Labbaik and the government signed by the interior minister are:

  • No fatwa will be issued against law minister if he resigns;

  • Raja Zafar-ul-Haq report will be made public within a month;

  • Those responsible for the change in the election oath will be acted against;

  • Arrested dharna related protesters will be released;

  • Cases registered against them will be taken back;

  • Action will be taken (following inquiry within a month) against those who ordered 25.11.17 crackdown;

  • Compensation for the loss of assets incurred.

    Interestingly the agreement that also bears signature of Major General  Faiz Hameed (as facilitator) lauds COAS for saving the nation.

    Justice Shauqut Aziz Siddiqui while saying that Zahid Hamid was sacrificed for protecting Minister of IT Anusha Rehman commented:

    • Where does the law assign this role to a major general?

    • What’s about Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad?

    • Was there no mischief in this protest?

    • Why was apology not sought from the protesters over their abusive words for the judiciary?

    • Who is this military officer who became a mediator of the agreement?

    • Does the Constitution of Pakistan empower a military officer to become an arbitrator?

    • Is Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa an executive?

    • Who are these people to thank General Bajwa?

    • You (Ahsan Iqbal) talk about the Constitution. Then, who is this major general who became a mediator.

    • Is military the national leadership? Tell me as to how he became a mediator.

    • You took as mediator the Major General who should face court martial.

    • You proved as to who this project belonged to. They and you are destroying the country to get the better of each other.

    • Did the government ask about those who maligned the court?
