Looking into the life of a working mother

KARACHI: Away from the charm of life and entertainment, little Farida remains busy and helps her mother in order to gain some money to manage living expenses.

Farida is 11-year-old and lives in the Karachi’s middle-classed Rerhi Goth, a locale deprived of necessary facilities of life. She is a student of 4th standard.

Her mother, Sakina Bibi works for a factory which makes embroidery products. She is a 40-year-old widow having four kids. Farida is the eldest one.

Sakina Bibi’s husband died when she was only 31. As there was no other male in the house, after Farida’s father Sakina Bibi took to herself the responsibility of raring her kids.

She started to work from home as she couldn’t leave her house because of her little children. She is being paid Rs. 500 to 600 on daily basis for her work. This amount was more than enough to foot her family’s food bills.

Educating her kids was her biggest dream of life. Within a few months, she saved enough money to transform her thought into reality. According to Sakina Bibi, the day was the best of her life when she got Farida admitted in school.

Farida is a bright student in her class. After returning from the school, she helps her mother with her work.

Now, Sakina is very proud because all of her kids are getting decent schooling. Toiling out in a somber milieu she hopes for a brighter future of her children.
