Doors of Punjab Assembly shut for 84 MPAs

LAHORE: MPAs – 84 in all – whose memberships were suspended by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), were not allowed to participate in the Punjab Assembly session today.

Among the barred MPAs who had failed to declare their assets to the ECP, seventy-four belong to the ruling party PML-N including ministers Iqbal Ahmad Chandary and Chaudhry Shafiq. Six MPAs are from PTI, while two MPAs  belong to PPP and PML-Zia each.

According to the Section 42A of the Representation of the People Act, 1976 and Section 25A of the Senate (Election) Act, 1975, it is a mandatory  to submit statements of assets and liabilities.
