KARACHI: Rumors making round here in the entertainment fraternity are that pop singer Nazia Hassan’s ex-husband Mirza Ishtiaq Baig is all geared up to make a film on her life.

According to the details, Nazia’s brother singer Zoheb Hassan had threatened to sue Ishtiaq upon doing so. Deliberating about the matter, Zoheb took to Twitter and posted, “Our family has come to know that Nazia’s ex-husband is trying to make a film on her life so he can feature himself and profit from her name and fame.”

The couple tied the knot in 1995 and had a son namely Arez Hassan.  It has been considered that the pop star parted ways from her husband before her tragic demise. However, talking about their marriage, Ishtiaq asserted, “Nazia Hassan was my wife until her sad demise in London. Her death certificate confirms our marital status.”

Negating his claim Zoheb Hassan, while posting Nazia-Ishtiaq  (April 2000) divorce certificate,  stated on behalf of the family: “His (Ishtiaq’s) statements are as false and divisive as himself always trying to create a delusion in public that he is still married to our beloved Nazia so he can keep on gaining from her name and somehow eradicate how he mistreated her to her very last days”:

“Anyone entertaining this individual shall be duly and legally sued by our family as he has no legal right or basis to do so,” warned he.

On the other hand, rubbishing all such rumors pertaining to the movie, Baig stated, “I am too busy at the moment in my business and other engagements.”

“However, if ever plan to make one, I would announce it myself proudly and being her husband nobody can stop me from doing so.”

Nazia gained fame via a program titled Sung Sung aired on Pakistan Television’s (PTV) and became one of Pakistan’s most celebrated stars in the 70s and 80s.

Her award-winning and chartbuster track Aap Jaisa Koi, which she has sung at the age of 13 for an Indian flick entitled Qurbaani, made her a shining celebrity both at home and in South Asia.

She claimed a Filmfare Award and turned out to be the foremost Pakistani lady to win the prestigious accolade. Nazia along with her brother successfully managed to sell more than 60 million records worldwide. The duo released Disco Deewane in 1981, which went to the top of the chart.

Unfortunately, the Pakistani pop icon lost the battle of her life on 13th August, 2000, due to the lethal lung cancer at the age of only 35 in London.
