KARACHI: US Consulate General’s Public Affairs Officer John Warner, applauding the hard work, dedication and the concentrated efforts of 75 graduating students of English Works, encouraged them to continue seeking opportunities to learn new skills.
Addressing the pupils today here at Royal Rodale Club on completion of their six-month course, John Warner further noted that the program also introduced youth to U.S. values such as volunteerism, and cultural and religious pluralism.
Conspicuous among others there were Sidrah Niaz CEO of Evolution, Shoaib A. Siddiqui Director of Programs of Evolution and US Consulate’s Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer Daniel Lee.
The program, funded through Mission Pakistan’s Regional English Language Programs Office, focuses on enhancing business communication skills – including professional-level English – to improve students’ employment and educational prospects, and in many cases, their ability to support their families.
English Works program was launched to improve job-related English and practical skills among disadvantaged young people aged 18-25.
The program provides participants up to 12 hours per weekly classroom instruction in English vocabulary, grammar and writing for use in workplace environments.
With 400 participants across Pakistan, the program, includes seminars, workshops and conferences on resume writing, job interviews and workplace etiquette.
