KARACHI: Lobby of the Arts Council of Pakistan was the place where hundreds of Karachiites converged on the evening of 16th December to light lamps remembering the lost of innocent lives due to terrorist attack on Army Public School the very day three years ago.
Literati Iftikhar Arif, Haseena Moin, Commissioner Karachi Ejaz Ahmed Khan and President Arts Council Muhammad Ahmed Shah while addressing the ladies and gentlemen in the audience reaffirmed their resolve to work towards making Pakistan an enlightened Islamic state.
Special arms licenses may be given to Karachi businessmen!
KARACHI: Accepting that law and order situation in the Metropolis was not in an ideal state Sindh Home Minister Suhail Anwar Khan Siyal said that he would talk to the CM apropos proposal that suggests special permission for arms licenses to businessmen.
The Sindh home minister on Wednesday pledged to take measures for the security of the business community that would include a special permission for issuing arms licenses to its members despite a ban.
He was speaking to the members of KCCI here yesterday (on Wednesday 13th of December).
Home Minister observed that there was an immense need to equip and train police officers and make them capable enough to efficeintlyand promplty deal with different types of crimes.
Minister claimed that there had been a gradual improvement in every segment of the law and order scenario: “You would have witnessed the recent increase in street crime but the fact is, which can be counterchecked through the CPLC data, it has been on the decline if we compare it to the past few years.
“I endorse concerns of the business community, and to address those I would talk to the chief minister with a proposal that suggests special permission for arms licenses to businessmen.
“We have already launched police reforms…In line with the same initiative, we have been recruiting policemen on merit, and for capacity building the law enforcement agency has been equipped with hundreds of new mobile vans and hi-tech weapons.
“Similarly, work is already under way on the Safe City project that would enhance the city’s video surveillance manifold and make policing more effective.”
Siyal said that strategies should be devised to improve the policing system in the port city at par with world’s major cities.
Owners of Rufi Builders arrested by NAB for cheating public
KARACHI: Sources privy to Newspakistan.tv has informed that NAB here has arrested two owners of Messrs Rufi Builders & Developers, Rauf Ahmed Rufi and Manzoor Ahmed Rufi today.
They were booked in an investigation on charges of cheating public at large by denying possession of plots to 415 allottees who made their payments 17 years ago under their project Rufi Global City located at main super highway.
They have been charged of extorting amount of millions of rupees from public by over booking of plots on land of 45 acres.
They will be produced before Accountability Court Hyderabad tomorrow for physical remand.
