SSP Malir Rao Anwar cleared of all charges




KARACHI: Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Malir Rao Anwar was on Wednesday cleared of all charges by the investigation team.

Anwar, who was suspended on September 16 for briefly arresting Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan leader Khawaja Izharul Hasan, was cleared by the investigation committee formed by the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah under DIG Dr Jameel.

The committee has sent the report to the chief minister.

The SSP Malir challenged his suspension in the Sindh High Court (SHC). In a press conference after his suspension, Anwar termed his suspension from duty as a wrongful act.

“I was placed under suspension in haste and it was wrong to do so,” said Rao Anwar. He had warned that there would be “side effects” of his suspension.

Cases against SSP Rao Anwar:

Rao Anwaar has cases against him pending in courts pertaining to illegal detention, extrajudicial killing and fake police encounters.

Several citizens have accused Anwar and his sub-ordinates of illegally detaining and killing their loved ones in staged police encounters.

SSP Malir Rao Anwar takes charge of his office after two month-long suspension

KARACHI: SSP Malir Rao Anwar on Saturday took charge of his office after facing  two month-long suspension for arresting Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Khawaja Izharul Hasan.

The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah. However, a notification issued by the Sindh government said that the police chief has yet to face the disciplinary proceedings.

“With the approval of the competent authority, Mr. Anwar Ahmed Khan (BS-18) Senior Superintendent of Police, whose services were placed under suspension vide this department’s order is hereby re-instated in service with immediate effect, pending disciplinary proceedings,” the communique read.

On September 16, MQM lawmaker Izhar was arrested and released five hours later in a rare move by the Sindh police that triggered a political firestorm in Karachi.
