Police release Arif Alvi, Imran Ismail after brief detention

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police on Monday released Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI)’s senior leaders Arif Alvi and Imran Ismail after a brief detention.

PTI leaders were taken into custody when they were trying to enter Imran Khan’s Bani Gala residence. The two men were carrying food for the party workers and supporters.

Shortly after the detention, the interior ministry ordered the release of the two leaders.

“There was no point in stopping us. I was intending to go to Bani Gala and was carrying food with me,” Said Arif Alvi while talking to the media after his release.

Imran Ismail on Twitter said he was “arrested brutally”. The PTI leader tweeted a selfie from inside the van in which the two were smiling.

He also tweeted saying they were taken to the Secretariat police station. However, an official from the police station denied that no leader was brought to the station.

PTI leader said they were “going for a meeting in Bani Gala”.

He added that the PTI will not be deterred “no matter how many times we are put into jails”.
