PM Nawaz arrives in Karachi, likely to address Rangers issue

KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday has arrived in Karachi to review work on various developmental projects of Port Qasim Authority and Port Qasim Power Project.

According to sources, a day he will spend having three official engagements and a likely meeting with Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad and other high-level officials on the issue of Rangers’ powers.

Senior leaders of Pakistan People’s Party will meet the prime minister and discuss with him the ongoing issue over extensions in Rangers’ policing powers in the province.

A schedule for the visit released by his office did not include any meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah or chairing of any meeting on the law and order situation in the city.

 “As far as the agenda for the day is concerned, the prime minister has three back-to-back engagements, which don’t include a meeting with the Sindh CM on the issue of Rangers’ powers,” the official said.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Water and Power and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and Trade and Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir are accompanying the prime minister during his visit to Karachi, an official said earlier.
