Israel-Syria trade fire at Golan Heights

JERUSALEM: Israeli army struck at Syrian government weaponry retaliating to opening of fire at Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Authorities identified four hits from five rounds launched at the northern Golan from Syria, without reporting any fatalities or damage.

Israeli army stated that it would react forcefully against the Syrian army, according to the situation of who was responsible for the fire and whether it was pre-planned or unintentional.

It is pertinent to mention here that Israel invaded Syria and seized 460 square miles of the Golan Heights in a Six-Day War of 1967.

Resolution of Palestinian issue essential for global peace: Maleeha Lodhi

NEW YORK: Maleeha Lodhi Pakistan’s Envoy to the United Nations stated here today that the resolution of the Palestinian dispute was an ultimate pre-condition for regional as well as global peace.

“A viable, independent and the contiguous State of Palestine on the basis of internationally agreed parameters, the pre-1967 borders and with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, is the only sustainable guarantee for enduring peace in the Middle East”, she stressed.

“As a first step, the illegal and oppressive siege of Gaza by Israel must be lifted”, she insisted.

She further held: “Creating alternate ‘facts on the ground’ cannot change historic realities or neutralize the legal rights of people living under foreign occupation, in Palestine, and elsewhere”.

Pointing towards UN Secretary General’s statement ‘We are a world in pieces. We need to be a world at peace’ she maintained: “The ideal of world peace should begin from the Middle East”.

Swaraj asks newly appointed Pak Envoy to consider Kulbhushan Jadhav’s case

NEW DELHI: Newly appointed Pakistan High Commissioner (HC) Sohail Mahmood to India met Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj here earlier this week on Monday (16th of October). 

During the first high-level interaction between the two countries in months, Swaraj insisted to analyze Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav’s case, a condemned prisoner presently incarcerated in a Pakistani jail.

According to sources, she also requested Islamabad to permit Jadhav’s mother to visit Pakistan and see her son.

Swaraj also asked Islamabad to quickly bring to book the alleged Mumbai and Pathankot terror attackers.

Sohail Mahmood has officially taken charge as Pakistan’s HC  to India last month. And this was his first meeting with an apex Govt. official after assuming responsibility.
