Kabul stadium blast: Abdul Razzaq quits Afghan cricket league, flies back home

KARACHI: Former Pakistan Test cricketer Abdul Razzaq has quit the Shpageeza Cricket League in Kabul following a suicide blast outside a cricket stadium here.

The blast occurred on Wednesday during a match between the Boost Defenders and MIS Ainak Knights. At least three people including the suicide bomber were killed in the blast.

Razzaq said immediately after the blast, many players from England, South Africa and Zimbabwe participating in the tournament held a meeting decided to leave Kabul.

“I was watching the other match on TV when I heard the loud blast. All the players were terrified,” he said.

The league, Afghanistan’s domestic Twenty20 tournament, comprises six teams and features about two dozen overseas players from South Africa, West Indies, Zimbabwe, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Oman.
