CALIFORNIA: Smartphones users will get their phones fully charged in just five minutes with a new technology which will be available to consumers as soon as next year.
According to a report, the technology has been developed by Israeli start-up StoreDot and it was first showcased at the CES tech show in 2015.
“It will go into production in 2018,” said Doron Myersdorf, Chief executive of StoreDot.
He said that the batteries will contain materials that allow for ‘non-traditional’ reactions and an unusually fast transfer of ions from an anode to a cathode – the electrical process that charges a battery.
Myersdorf went on to add that the technology was in pilot production at two Asian battery makers and that “mass production” was expected to commence in the first quarter of 2018.
Tech experts believe if the battery works as planned, it could be a game changer for the smartphone industry.
