Civil Society to initiate contempt of court proceedings if IG ADK transferred

KARACHI: Members from various spheres of life converged here today at KPC asking Sindh Govt. to withdraw the transfer notification of IGP A.D. Khawaja.

Addressing a joint Presser  Karamat Ali of Pakistan Institute of Labor Education & Research (PILER), Nazim F. Haji, Zahid, Mahnaz Rehman of Aurat Foundation, Mir Zulfiqar Ali of Workers Education & Research Organization said that the Govt. has committed contempt of court  as Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued stay order on his transfer last year on 28th of December. 

Karamat told the journalists that civil society organizations including PILER, Orangi Pilot Project – Research & Training Institute and Urban Resource Centre as institutions and some individuals including himself, Nazim H. Haji, pop artist Shahzad Roi, &  Aquila Ismail  have filed a Constitution Petition in SHC on Police reforms in the Province.

Contempt of Court notice has been sent to the respondents yesterday (1st of April) demanding withdrawal of the notification for appointment of new IGP.  A. D. Khawaja has also been asked not to vacate the position because it would be a contempt of court.

Respondents include Federation of Pakistan through the Secretary, Ministry of Interior & the Secretary, Ministry of Law & Justice, Sindh Govt. through the Chief Secretary & the Home Secretary, Pakistan Rangers through DG, Acting IGP and IGP. 

Karamat said that if Govt. failed to withdraw the notification by today (2nd day of April), contempt of court proceedings would be initiated.

IG Sindh AD Khawaja removed

KARACHI: Inspector General of Sindh Police (IGP) Allah Dino Khawaja has been removed from his post, it emerged on Saturday.

According to details, Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti, Additional IG Research and Development, has been appointed as the acting IG of the province in Khawaja’s place. A notification has been issued in this regard.

AD Khawaja was appointed as IG Sindh Police in March 2016 after the federal government removed former Sindh IGP Ghulam Hyder Jamali from his post.

He was sent on forced leave on December 19 after which the responsibilities of Sindh IG were handed over to Additional IG Mushtaq Mehar. The decision was taken by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah few days before the arrival of PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

Differences emerged between AD Khawaja and the ruling authorities over the issue of recruitments and appointments in Sindh Police.

Sindh surrenders IG Khawaja’s services to federal govt

KARACHI: Pursuing their efforts to remove Inspector General Police (IGP), Sindh government has decided to surrender the services of Allah Dino Khawaja to the federal government and has recommended three names in his stead, it emerged on Saturday.

According to an official, the provincial government has sent a letter to Secretary Establishment Division (Islamabad) on 31 March (Friday), asking the federal government to replace A.D Khawaja.

“I am directed to refer to the subject noted above and to state that the Government of Sindh has decided to surrender the services of Mr. Allah Dino Khuwaja, an officer of Police Services of Pakistan (BS-21), Inspector General of Police, Sindh, Karachi,” the letter by Sindh Secretary Services Sajid Jamal Abro read.

The letter also suggests three names to fill the slot. The three officers are: Sardar Abdul Majeed, Ghulam Qadir Thebo, and Khadim Hussain Bhatti.

Mr. Majeed is a Grade-21 officer of Police Services of Pakistan, presently posted as Additional IGP, Research Development, Inspections, and Enquiries.

Mr. Thebo, another G-21 PSP officer, is holding the office of chairman, Enquiries, and Anti-corruption Establishments. He has also served as CCPO Karachi.

Mr. Bhatti is Additional IG Traffic. He had also an additional charge of IGP.

Sources say that Thebo is the strongest candidate for the slot.
